About

Established in 2021, Shinfield Studios is a state of the art, purpose-built studio facility located close to Reading in Berkshire. The studios are within Wokingham Borough’s Thames Valley Science Park, ideally situated with great transport links – 30 mins by rail to central London from Reading and 30 mins by car from Heathrow Airport.  The studios are easily accessible for crew and talent, with plenty of parking on site.

Phase 1 of the studio is complete and totals 150,000 square feet across four stages and workshops that are currently occupied by brand-name production companies.

Two stages are 20,000 sq ft and two stages are 17,000 sq ft – all with a working height of 35 ft.

Construction of Phase 2 is underway with 14 additional stages and complimentary support space totalling approximately 750,000 square feet, delivering on a rolling basis through Summer 2024.

Upon completion, Shinfield Studios will be one of the largest studio complexes in the UK with 18 purpose-built sound stages, workshops, contemporary offices and a post-production complex with cinema – all designed to service the largest blockbuster film and television productions in the world.

Shinfield Studios is led by Managing Directors Ian Johnson and Nick Smith who together form one of the most experienced teams in the industry. 

Shinfield Studios is owned and operated by Shadowbox Studios, a leading independent global studio platform owned by affiliates of Commonwealth Asset Management and Silver Lake.  In addition to Shinfield, Shadowbox owns and operates an existing 9-stage, 850,000 square foot studio campus in Atlanta, Georgia, USA,  that has been home to such blockbuster features as “Jumanji: The Next Level”, “Jungle Cruise” and “Godzilla: King of the Monsters”.  Shadowbox  is also developing approximately 2.5 million square feet across two purpose-built studio campuses in Atlanta, Georgia and Los Angeles County, California.

4 stages, workshops and offices, granted under a temporary planning application, is due to open November 2021. This will provide approximately 7,500 sq m of film studio space and approximately 7,000 sq m of workshop space.  

A planning application to create Shinfield Studios Creative Media Hub, is currently with Wokingham Borough Council which would provide 18 purpose built sound stages (encompassing the 4 temporary stages and workshops), together with workshops, a post production complex including cinema, plus contemporary offices.
